Review

Hawkgirl #3 is a fun entry into this series and expands on the mythology of the Nth metal while making use of the range of characters in the DC Universe. In this latest issue, the Court of Owls take center stage resulting in great action set pieces that fans of the series will be sure to enjoy.

The issue begins with Hawkgirl, Galaxy, and Argus taking on the Croc Bloc street gang in Gotham City and within a few pages, they are taking on the Court of Owls with Batman at their side.

This issue is a mixed bag because the writing has very strong points and some very weak points. The overarching plot of this series is incredibly interesting. Hawkgirl is dealing with conflicting memories and the Nth metal is creating confusion while she exists in the current timeline. On the other hand, dialogue is often a source of frustration in this read as some of the humor that is meant to enhance any banter falls flat. There have been some great comedic moments over the past issues, however, this issue has moments that feel forced, making this one of the weaker entries from writer Jadzia Axelrod.

While this issue may not be the strongest, I wouldn’t say it bring the entire series down. The plot from Axelrod makes for memorable set pieces and the art from Amancay Nahuelpan and colors from Adriano Lucas are well designed panels that are epic, comedic when necessary, and well choreographed action sequences. Additionally, Nahuelpan and Lucas’ combined art have made for a cool cover that mixes the color schemes of Hawkgirl and meshes it nicely with Batman and the surrounding Talons.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this issue is not the strongest in the series so far, but it still had moments that made for an entertaining read.
