He-Man & the Masters of the Multiverse #2: The Final Frontier

This issue of He-Man and the Masters of the Multiverse was especially fun to read. It largely takes place on Starship Eternia as movie He-Man, finger tap He-Man and Prince Keldor battle to save it from Anti-He-Man. I’m one of those people that thinks the New Adventures of He-Man is very underrated, so this issue was a treat. Writer Tim Seeley crafts this chapter of the mini-series so that the reader can enjoy it as part of the larger story or as a solo issue. The writing is crisp, the issue is well-paced, and the characterization can only be described as dead-on balls accurate. Seeley doesn’t use the multiverse as a crutch or an out as others do, instead, he uses it as a source of endless material.

And OH MAN Dan Fraga’s art this issue so awesome! I’m guessing he’s a He-Man fan because there’s very little chance that he could pull this off as successfully as he has. Again, he mixes the different He-Men perfectly. They look like they’re in the same place, but from very different places. While the majority of this issue takes place in one universe, the story takes them to yet another very different universe (one that will drive the Masters of the Universe internet community crazy) which he renders in a totally different style. Fraga’s art so far has been very, very good and I keep having to remind myself that the series is only two issues deep.

I highly recommend picking up this book. It comes with the “licensed comics” stigma, which is unfair and unwarranted, but it’s a good comic. It’s technically sound, well-executed, and above all, entertaining.
