Heroes Reborn #3: Justice, Like Lightning… Blurs…?

 This issue focuses on the Blur, the fastest person alive in this new world. The new, very confusing world. I had a couple of issues with this…issue, so let’s get them out of the way. First, there were so many things that left me scratching my head. Author Jason Aaron has done a great job so far of introducing brand new characters who we are familiar with, even though they’re “brand new” characters. And so far, each member of the Squadron Supreme has had their own, unique origin. With the Blur, he borrows from a handful of different origins, and instead of creating something really intriguing, it ends up being a little messy and more than a little confusing. The other thing that bothered me a bit is the fact that this early in the series, “everybody knows.” Yes, everyone who’s not a member of the Squadron Supreme knows that there’s something wrong with the universe. It’s to the point where it’s not a secret anymore and it’s almost ridiculous that everyone isn’t working to get the “real” universe back instead of just continuing to be in a fog in this reality. 

Artist Federico Vicentini was a great choice to do this book! He’s such a talented artist and all of his art looks like it’s in a state of constant motion which is what a speedster book should look like. He does an awesome job with the look and design of the new characters. As most of them are a combination of two characters, he gives them just enough of the two characters that you can instantly tell which two villains, or heroes, that they’re an amalgamation of. There are a few scenes that could’ve easily ended up being colossal failures, but with Vicentini’s skill, they end up being a feast for your eyes.
