Review

When I was first asked to review this title, I will admit I was not looking forward to it (also I was not-not looking forward to it either). Supernatural witches not really my thing (most of the time). However, I accepted and knew I would go on with a blank mind. I find it important to go in with a blank mind to allow the book to paint a picture of the story.

I am glad that I did have the chance to read this book. It is fun, beautifully colored and controversial.  I did read different comments about the book after I read it. I can see how this could be a political book. It shows women with great power and turned into Stepford housewives, taking away of their power, their strength, their independence and turned two of them into heterosexual women.  Do I know if the writers intend it to be a political statement? Maybe, but I don’t want it to overshadow the book. It’s a fun book to read.

Although I admitted my eagerness to pick up Hex Wives was limited, After reading the book I changed my tone. I am excited about the next issue! I am hoping that the witches get sweet revenge on the so-called boys club in the book!

Final Thoughts

Yes, you should read this book!  The violence can be a bit gruesome (which is awesome). I did score the writing and story at 9. I am really interested in seeing where this goes. I liked the writing style as it gave us an origin story but did not take forever to bring us to the present. It presented the idea of this is what is happening, how we got here, without taking us on a long drive so to speak. The story is good, it made me want more.

I did give the art an 8. Now to be fair I am an art snob, I love all forms of art. I think the art is great, what I didn't like about it was some of the facial expressions the lines in the face where drawn a little harsher then I like it but seriously that is me nitpicking.  I love love the use of colors. It was bright and beautiful.
