Review
Hexagon Bridge #2 is a strong follow up from the stellar first issue from Richard Blake. It’s a visual spectacle and the writing continues to be top notch both in dialogue and storytelling. Sci-fi fans who haven’t checked this series out yet definitely need to explore this new world.
Issue 1 introduced readers to interdimensional explorers Elena and Jacob. Trapped in an imaginative alternate world, their psychic daughter Adley may be the key to helping them get home. Issue 2 takes its time in showing how other explorers and scientists are working to utilize Adley’s special skills with artificial intelligence to design a robot named Staden who may be able to rescue Adley’s parents.
The script and art are done by Richard Blake and the writing and art are both top notch. From a story standpoint, it’s such a unique tale that combines sci-fi elements in just the right amount. The dialogue elevates the story even more. There’s no embellishing of exposition or unnecessary details given. In fact, part of what makes this story so good is how it shows and doesn’t tell. Sure, there are moments that are explained through character interactions, but there is just the right amount left to the imagination that gives a sense of awe to the rescue mission unfolding.
The art is some of the best I’ve seen in a comic in a while. Blake’s style is creative and the colors truly are breathtaking. This is especially magnificent from the panels of different locations around the world when Adley and Staden are mentally connected and exploring simulated environments. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how wonderful the covers have been. Almost dreamlike, the art on each cover has subtle connections to the interior story while standing alone as pieces of art.
There is so much to appreciate about this series and it has quickly become a story that I look forward to hitting stands.
Final Thoughts
If you haven’t given this story a shot, take a leap and give into Hexagon Bridge. It’s a story that has already cemented a high standard of what makes a good comic–hell, a good story.
