Review

Hexagon Bridge #5 is a stellar ending to this indie title. Filled with amazing art and an imaginative story, readers will be content with how this epic tale ends.
For the past 4 issues, writer/artist Richard Blake has wowed readers with stunning visuals and a story that is grand and intimate at the same time.
Hexagon Bridge follows Staden, an A.I. robot built to find two lost cartographers in a parallel dimension. Guided by Adley (the daughter of the cartographers with whose psychic abilities keep a constant subtle connection), Staden has crossed the bridge and is in search of clues for where the lost explorers might be. From vast architecture and rogue A.I. armed with military weaponry, Staden has maneuvered his way in the turbulent world and is now in the final stretch as there is one last straw to pull.
The visuals in this issue continue the trend of being awe inspiring and incredibly unique. It’s a testament to how the comic book medium is more than just stories of capes and tights (although nothing is wrong with that), but also an outlet for stunning creativity in word and art combined.
The writing has been fantastic, and while the visuals are a sight to behold, there is enough story to warrant multiple read-throughs as Blake gives a great balance of plot and world-building.
The ending, although bittersweet, is satisfying enough for readers to appreciate the 5 issue experience. It also leaves the door—or should I say bridge—opened just enough for possible future stories to exist.
Hexagon Bridge is a series that appreciates the entire experience from the cover to the last page and gives a story unlike anything else.

Final Thoughts

For those interested in this series, all issues from this arc are now on stands with a trade paperback due later this year. This series is certainly worth seeking out to see why it is one of the most imaginative titles in comic book stores.
