Review
I had been thinking for a while about the fact that this is a great series, yet it hadn’t really “grabbed” me. All of that changed with this issue. In the 20+ pages of this issue, i went from enjoying the book but feeling like it was a somewhat generic post-apocalyptic sci-fi to loving this series and wishing I could read the next issue this very moment.
I feel that this was not only a great issue but an issue that increases my enjoyment of previous issues. The slow buildup of plot details and the meticulous character development of the first two issues gets some great payoff in this issue and kind of pulls everything into focus. This issue also did great world building, showing how different communities in this world vary and how they distract themselves from the wasteland they live in.
The art, as usual, was breathtaking. Outstanding page layouts and the introduction of some really interesting character designs really gave a great flow to the story and an interesting depth to the world in which it takes place.
High Level has officially established itself as a fascinating and intricate sci-fi story with well developed characters in an wonderfully detailed world. I am very excited to see where the story goes from here.
Final Thoughts
This series comes into its own as we get some brilliant payoff on plot points that have been building since issue #1. Coupled with outstanding world-building and great characters to make a truly brilliant book.
