ICYMI! Damage Control #5: Robot Lovin’

In this easter-egg laden conclusion, we finally solve the mystery of why, exactly, Damage Control is working so hard to keep Gus occupied — despite his giant hamster related mishaps and various incompetent shenanigans, but if you think that I’m going to spoil it for you, you couldn’t be more wrong. Suffice to say that if you want to read a book that features Jocasta, Machine Man, a fistful of Sentinels, Magneto, eerie voices whispering in the back of your head, possible tapeworm infections, and the Ark of the Covenant, this is probably one for you.

Adam F Goldberg and Hans Rodionoff work together absolutely brilliantly, packing jokes in like bar bathrooms during halftime on Superbowl Sunday. Every panel practically bursts with mayhem and madness. Somehow, they manage to shoehorn some semblance of an actual plot — even going as far as setting up a future story for the hilariously mediocre cosmic entity they’ve created. If they do manage to get a part two greenlit I’ll absolutely want to read it.

Nathan Stockman’s line work is as wonderful as ever. Every panel is jammed with sight gags and odd bits of Marvel history. Ruth Redmond’s colors are bright, appropriately cartoonish, and expertly applied.
