ICYMI: If Destruction Be Our Lot #3: Dreaming of Electric Sheep

After escaping certain destruction in the warehouse, Abe and Speed encounter a human girl! When their chase leads the pair of bots back into the city, Abe starts to ask questions that may lead to chaotic answers.

IDBOL is a series that slowly peels back the layers of its commentary on the human condition with each successive issue. Showing that humanity is deeper than whether you are just made of flesh or metal. The bots feel the same emotions that the humans they claim to despise do ,and Abe is caught in the middle as a bot that looks human. That hypocrisy from this apocalyptic society is on full display in this issue.

The Rosenbergs take another step deeper into their dystopian world, using the bots’ encounter with the human girl as the catalyst for a darker turn. The ensuing chase expands on Abe’s curiosity and shows a glimpse of Speed’s (begrudging) compassion for his fellow bot. Nothing is really revealed about the human girl, but she will definitely be more important later. This issue mostly focuses on Abe’s continued spiral downward.

Andy MacDonald’s pencils continue to amaze, but it’s really Francesco Segala and Gloria Martinelli’s colors that steal the show this time around. The red light district is fittingly seedy, unfamiliar, and unsafe and the lighting allows you to feel Abe’s apprehension and desperation as he travels there. It’s the little details.
