Recap

A version of the Phoenix has gathered together an entire team of various Wolverpeople in order to destroy Onslaught before They can obliterate the multiverse. There's not enough beer in existence.

Review

Christos Gage has his work cut out for him, juggling five Wolverines and a cosmic entity that’s prone to fainting at inopportune moments, but he handles this unbearably ridiculous task well. I’m going to be honest with all of you, I have been looking forward to this story for a long time, and this story doesn’t disappoint.

Old Man Logan, Weapon X, Earth X Logan, Zombie Logan, and Jane Howlett (aka: the best of the bunch) are on an Exiles-esque quest to eliminate a force that is slowly gutting the multiverse. There’s as much tension brewing between the hairy, smelly people as one would expect, and many of their interactions are absolutely hilarious.

Jane is the only character who hasn’t appeared in one form or the other, and she’s amazing. She’s got the usual Wolverine gruffness, but since she’s from a pre-Weapon Plus Program era, she’s considerably more put together.

It would be very easy for all of these characters to sort of blend into each other, despite their slightly different appearances, but Gage has managed it by tapping into the way that their various histories have marked them. Old Man Logan is traumatized, Jane is an avowed Bluestocking feminist, Zombie-Logan is disgusting and ravenous, Earth X Wolverine might not have a working healing factor, but at least his political views are adequately progressive, and out of all of them. Weapon X is the Logan who is the closest to the original flavor, but they’re all entertaining.

Yildray Cinar’s line work is as energetic and detailed as ever. He’s especially good at depicting action scenes in a brutal, deeply entertaining way.

Final Thoughts

This is the start of a joyful, bloody, rollicking good time.
