Image #5, The Celebrations Continue with Another Great Collection

The fifth instalment of the image anthology certainly packs a punch!  With Blizzard as its crowning glory, and the introduction of Zoe Thorogood’s haunting ‘I think I might Be Evil’ , and Jeff Lemire’s ‘Royal City’, this might be my favourite of the anthologies so far. 

First, lets talk about Blizzard. Wow. This is how you set the scene, this is how you create tension, this is how you make the reader fear for the characters, even the questionable ones, when they are made to face an unknown monster. The pacing of the story so far, in my opinion, has been great. It lets you really sit with the story, get familiar with the setting, and really experience the action. Even with the chapters being as short as they are, because they are not rushing through the events taking place, just seem to work. 

The artwork by Andrea Mutti and the lettering by Rob Leigh is done so beautifully. They have managed to capture the chaos and the ferocity of the blizzard, and the violence of the monster quite brilliantly. And i am not usually a fan of scenes such as this, as they can often get muddy and lost in the complicated nature of the artwork, but I think here, Mutti did particularly well when it came to maintaining a the balance between the storm and the people stuck in it. 

In an anthology with such a variety of writers and artists, it has done extremely well to stand on its own two feet so far, and I am eager to see where it goes next. Although if something bad is going to happen to Michael, I want the creators to tell me now, because I don’t think I can deal with the emotions, and I would rather stop now than risk my feelings later. 

Now, lets go our look at Zoe Thorogood’s ‘I think I might be evil’ graphic novel. If you have read my reviews before, you will know that I am a fan of her artwork, and her style of storytelling, and this peek at her new graphic novel is no exception. I just know that I will be waiting inline to get my hands on a physical copy as soon as it is published (in 2024! Zoe please don’t do this to me). 

From what I have seen so far, it promises creepy, weird adventures, cool characters, and gorgeous artwork. Sign me up.
