Recap

Each issue of the Immortal Hulk thus far, Al Ewing and his creative team continues to carry that torch of their predecessors and take fans back to the roots of the 60’s and 70’s, an analogy of the fascinating Dr. Jekyll/Mister Hyde aspect between Bruce Banner and his reflection. Ewing and team inspirations for Banner/Hulk are more of a gothic horror genre with influential theories on psychodynamics.

Hulk is reborn in this horror tale that explores the dark and morbid nature of humans. Ewing uses these themes with the traumatic experiences that Banner/Hulk has experienced to provide a fresh new direction for long time fans as well as new readers. I am not going to give out any major spoilers as you just have to pick up each issue and see for yourself!

Review

Al Ewing’s fantastic spin on one of our favorite Marvel characters works well and now in the Immortal Hulk #7, Hulk finds himself confronted by the Avengers. The Hulk has been presumed dead during the Civil War II and reborn during the “No Surrender” event, Avengers #684 issue that paved the green goliath’s background of multiple deaths and the roadmap to The Immortal Hulk!

Angrier than ever before, Hulk is not pleased to see the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the Avengers feel the monster’s strength in this issue. It’s not the fact the Hulk smashing the Avengers that makes this issue spectacular. It’s how Ewing’s storytelling focuses on the everyday citizens’ reactions to the catastrophic battles occurring right in front of their vary eyes. The Immortal Hulk #7 opens with your typical family desperately trying to remember the evacuation protocols that were put in place for a Hulk attack. Ewing strategically pulls the reader into the story through the placement of everyday people that get caught up in the crossfire of the Marvel universe.

Joe Bennet’s artwork is pretty spectacular in this issue. The details in each panel flow effortlessly from the scenes of panic citizens to when the Hulk punches Tor out! Bennet’s take on the Hulk takes us back to Jack Kirby’s classic art, but with a modern twist. He’s able to convey the rage that is amazingly realistic that keeps the excitement alive.

Looking for a reality check in human psychology with a twist? If you haven’t checked out The Immortal Hulk yet, you should reconsider and give this a shot! It’s a rare type of superhero genre that only improves as it continues to the next issue. This comic book series is worthy of your time and cash.

Final Thoughts

Immortal Hulk is one of the best Marvel titles from their previous relaunch and a must have masterpiece!
