Review
Jeff Lemire and Mike Del Mundo are two names that should immediately grab a comic fans’ attention! This blockbuster team certainly will etch their names into your mind after this incredible one-shot!
A horror/somewhat detective like book of two halves confidentially embracing the Immortal Hulk title fans have grown to adore!
Lemire’s writing excites me with one shots like this as its always classy and to the point, its the perfect amount of story text that thankfully never over-exceeds its purpose! I love when a book can be fast-paced with enough injections of intrigue to leave the reader guessing but yet satisfied, evidence of the masterclass writing Lemire can achieve!
When writing Bruce, the reader needs to feel the panic, fear and anticipation of the Hulk being unleashed which thankfully is captured perfect right up until that revealing moment! When we’re gifted with that moment it does not disappoint between Hulk’s ruthlessness, haunting dialogue to his gory escapades that are presented flawlessly by Del Mundo, panels that could take its place top-tier horror graphic novel!
Mike Del Mundo creates a spectacle with his array of green fields depicting the farm life exquisitely whilst also darkening the tone of the book when the story demands it!
Whilst the brutal killings the Hulk commits are dark and savage the underlying message relating to our main character as this book draws to a close is even more terrifying.
Final Thoughts
There will always be a level of fear when a successful character/book falls into a different creative team's hands but not only does Lemire and Del Mundo show this title justice, they have left me wanting so much more! Whether you're a Hulk or horror fan it's an absolute must to pick this issue up!
