Review

Every now and then a comic is released that defines the power of the medium and stands out as an exercise in the highest quality of storytelling. One such issue is These Savage Shores #1 from Vault Comics. Writer Ram V tells a beautifully epic story set in 1766 centered around the vampire Alain Pierrefont and the dark evils of the world, where danger is just around every corner. The story explores supernatural and historical concepts in a unique way that makes it nearly impossible to put down, and ends with a riveting depiction of brutality that will undoubtedly have readers eager for the next issue.

The book comes to life thanks to a stunning artistic direction from Sumit Kumar, Vittorio Astone and Aditya Bidikar. The attention to detail in every panel contributes to the nature of the story incredibly well, making for a truly exciting reading experience from start to finish. There are multiple exotic locations that elevate the narrative through grand imagery, but it’s the characters themselves who capture the imagination through a vivid display of emotion.

These Savage Shores #1 takes a strong concept and turns it into a story that exceeds expectations on every level. The pacing isn’t too slow, but it does take the necessary time to lay a proper foundation for an expansive story. I appreciate this in the context of this issue because it helps to create a large-scale feel to the series that will surely benefit future issues.

With such a strong start, it will be interesting to see how the series continues to develop, but the first issue indicates that we have a lot to be excited about. The forces of evil at play give the creative team an opportunity to tell a story going forward that will be both harrowing and exhilarating.

This is a can’t miss issue for not only fans of the supernatural or adventure genre, but for comic book fans period, so be sure to grab your copy on October 3rd, 2018!

Final Thoughts

These Savage Shores #1 defies all expectations and delivers a truly epic experience through a dark exploration of ancient evil.
