Spotlight Review:
Where does one start with a comic that is both whimsical and gory? The somber tone accentuated by the oddly humorous aspects, albeit dark, create such a unique reading experience that as a reader, keeps you thoroughly engaged until the very last page.
The visuals, in all honesty, can get quite grotesque, but the story somehow manages to pull it off in a manner that isn’t just simple shock factor. The aesthetic you are confronted with immediately upon opening the book is a crucial issue in the narrative’s exploration of this dystopian world.
As described before, fans of Mad Max and Fallout are sure to find something that excites them in this series. However, I would also include fans of Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal as well purely for the series’ explorations through a near-hallucinatory environment with incredibly eccentric characters. There are conspiratorial threads woven through blatant societal anguish and hopelessness that hint at something much larger at work in the narrative.
Factory #1 is a beautifully trippy reading experience that might make you a bit squeamish, but for any fan of dystopian, sci-fi, and gore stories, this is easily a can’t miss series!
