Review
Jedi Knights 4 finds Jedi Masters Qui-Gon Jinn and Shaak Ti tracking down a robbery from the Galactic Bank Of Coruscant by Pheadra, a known criminal who gets more than she bargains for as the stolen funds were those from a Senator, holding said funds for Jabba The Hutt.
Pheadra, whom Guggenheim first introduced in his Star Wars: Han Solo and Chewbacca limited series, becomes target number one of both the Jedi Masters and a cadre of bounty hunters that Star Wars fans will recognize from the qmovies and animated shows.
Guggenheim does a good job of not only making this a standalone story, also incorporating the assassin from Obi-Wan’s vision in issue #1, in a subtle yet interesting way, as Qui-Gon senses a threat through the Force, but unable to pinpoint it other than it not being involved in the matter at hand with Pheadra. When the events of the issue are compared with Obi-Wan’s vision connected to Qui-Gon’s supposed assassination, it is clear to see that what happens in the vision is not actually happens such as in the vision Pheadra’s confrontation with Jango Fett has Jango holding the assassins vibroblade when in fact he has his guns.
The story, which jumps around in time, is not confusing and flows well between the panels and pages allowing Madibek Musabekov’s art to help sell the action taking place. The resolution of the story is somewhat predictable but it is the journey that is the fun part of the story that has all the elements of a good Star Wars story.
Final Thoughts
Jedi Knights 4 is a classic bank heist story with a Star Wars twist that works as a standalone story while building the mystery of the larger mystery and intrigue surrounding Obi-Wan's Force Vision of Qui-Gon's assassination.
