Recap

This tale explores the Chinese mythology of Nuwa. Long ago before mankind, Nuwa traveled through vast fields and mountains of the earth in awe of its beauty. The planet was beautiful, but lonely and she decided to fill the earth with human beings. But while life filled the Earth and Nuwa's heart, creation was only the beginning of the story.

Review

This was a very unique and beautifully illustrated issue. It felt slightly out of the norm for the series but was an overall enjoyable read.

The theme of this issue was taking time to repair what has been broken, with the storyteller explaining to his dog why he feels taking a full day to repair a pot is a simple task when compared to the lifetime Nuwa spent repairing a pillar of heaven. The story of Nuwa was beautifully told but the transitions from the Storyteller to the mythology didn’t feel organic; while illustrating the same lesson the two stories didn’t mesh well together, making it feel as though the storyteller was only a means to tie this story into the series.

The art was beautifully done; a simple yet elegant art style that was very fitting for the story being told. Contrasting reds and blues gave the art an exciting flair that really captures a readers attention.

This issue felt slightly out of place but was a great story of Chinese legend brought to life with joyful art.

Final Thoughts

An enjoyable but slightly awkward issue with outstanding art.
