Justice League #42: Straight-Forward Fun

Venditti’s new run on Justice League continues as the team fights back from certain defeat at the hands of the Eradicator and his Daxamite army. Once again, this issue proves to be incredibly straight-forward. Plans are made, plans are executed. Nothing much to write home about apart from a quick jab at politicians who “stand on principle” being a dying breed. The Eradicator’s threats to use Diana as breeding stock are unsettling but not necessarily out of character or a divergeance from the plot in this case. The arc is a mostly fun read but certainly isn’t the deepest exploration of the League and its characters we’ve seen.

Lopresti’s art shines in this issue. The general feeling of this issue reads incredibly 1990’s in style but with a more contemporary sense of comics story-telling in the layouts and structures. His figure work, anatomy, and perspective all lend a sense of nostalgia to the story which strengthens the tale given how traditional the story is in terms of advancement.
