Review
Justice League Unlimited #20, written by Mark Waid, with art by Dan Mora and Fico Ossio, colored by Tamra Bonvillain, and lettered by Ariana Maher, kicks off a fresh story that doesn;t slow down at any point. Since the return of Justice League Unlimited, Mark Waid and company have consistently delivered exactly what the title promises. While the series has always had a large cast, Waid understands the appeal of a book like this and handles the massive team so well. Seeds planted earlier in the series are finally starting to bud, which just goes to show at the thought that Waid is putting into his work. These characters are always in good hands with Waid, but his continuous partnership with artist Dan Mora gives the sense that Waid is comfortable taking big swings because he knows Mora will always make contact.
On top of that, Mora is sharing artist duties with Fico Ossio, who brings another dimension to this issue. Waid and Mora’s track record can’t be praised without mentioning colorist Tamra Bonvillain, who turns anything Mora draws into cosmic gold. Her use of color isn’t like anything else on shelves today. Justice League Unlimited has been a key part of the current DC line, often highlighting key characters. What is so impressive is that no matter the issue or plot, every character involved gets their moment. If your favorite character is in this issue, then even a quick flip through will earn a smile on one’s face. Between Luthor and the Brainiac Queen to the Lantern Corp, this issue is absolutely packed with something for everyone.
Final Thoughts
Justice League Unlimited #20 is another strong issue from a creative team that can’t miss. Packed cover to cover with action, stunning visuals, and a deep cast of the DC Universe, the issue serves as a reminder that few superhero books are having as much fun as Justice League Unlimited.
