Review

Horror, politics, and family issues. In a nutshell, this is Killadelphia #3 and it is awesome! John Adams’ as a vampire, and still being a founding father adds an alternate reality depth that works well for horror and history buffs alike. The books open with Adams thinking about the Founding Fathers, and the system they’ve created.

The way Rodney Barnes retells Adams’ background, he was George Washington’s vice president, and feeling slighted and following in Washington’s footsteps, you get a sense from John Adams that his presidency was mediocre at best. It wasn’t until a fateful trip to the Caribbean with Abigail that their lives would forever be changed. Upon his transformation, he was given a book so cryptic that he has yet to translate it. The book is said to have the answers to the mysteries of life, this is just another piece of the story that has made this series so good from panel to panel.

With James, James Jr (JJ), and Jose, the gory fight scenes are right out of the late-night HBO horror movies that came on after 10 pm. Violent close-quarter battles with the undead, it’s them or you and it was beautifully done through the art and inks of Jason Shawn Alexander and Louis Nct. At times the hair would stand up on my neck with fear taking over as I turned the page.

The panels of with Adams with him talking through history, war, capitalism, and the elite and how they maintain control of the system. As time goes on, we see Adams change with time with regards to clothing which matches the time change and their major events during such time. It makes you think that we’ve advanced in some areas, while others have stayed the same.

Final Thoughts

This book is relentless in both message and visual presentation. Each issue gets better, scarier, and bolder. There may be a lot to dive into with this issue, however, this is definitely one of those titles that have great staying power. Each character in this issue had great depth to really sink your fangs into.
