Review

Here we are, another new release Wednesday and another tie-in for the superb event King in Black. Aside from the main story, the tie-ins have been on point and an impressive read. The creative teams seem to be channeling their own form of symbiote terror and it is working. Planet of the Symbiotes #1 is no exception.

Both creative teams for SCREAM and Ravencroft do a brilliant job at setting up even more obstacles for our heroes in their quest to defeat Knull but take a page out of the Book of Cates for that classic symbiote cliffhanger, non-stop action, and big reveals from characters past. SCREAM channels her inner badass and (you’re just going to have to wait and read it for yourself).  Meanwhile, over at the friendly confines of Ravencroft they have their own troubles on hand as “you know who” shows up, and…well all hell breaks loose.

Clay McLeod Chapman kicks the door down with unabashed fervor with SCREAM and her determination to step in the way of Knull’s knuckleheads. Her grit and determination take center stage with Mcleod’s brilliant pen work, a natural when it comes to Andi Benton. Guiu Vilanova and Dean White round out this team with their artistic assault on the senses that stands out magnificently especially towards the end (you’ll know what I’m talking about when you read it) which will leave you with chills and your mouth a little ajar, taking in what just happened. Speaking about what just happened, let’s take a quick trip to Ravencroft with Frank Tieri, Danilo Beyruth, and Rachelle Rosenberg but before we do, buckle your seatbelt and hang on!

As I stated earlier taking a page from the Book of Cates Tieri and have their own page that will have symbiote fans and Venomaniacs alike stand up and rejoice at the big reveal or scream in terror. The panel I’m referring to was AWESOME, I’m still a bit giddy.

Final Thoughts

Tie-ins can get a bit boring and at times have a feeling that makes them stick out like a sore thumb with the current story. Planet of the Symbiotes does not have the feel at all. This was such a great addition to the King in Black story and is executed beautifully. Don’t miss this book.
