Review

Knight Terrors – Action Comics #2 continues to put Power Girl through the emotional wringer following her nightmares of Krypton she is experiencing while seemingly trapped in her Symbioship. Whereas the last issue’s nightmares dealt mainly with her past, Williams focuses on her friendship with Omen in the present as Insomnia puts Paige through the paces.

While Williams pulls no punches with the psychological warfare she is putting upon Power Girl, it is nice to see that she understands Paige as a character and continues to take Power Girl on a journey that is sure to continue in the upcoming Power Girl ongoing series. One such moment is Paige admitting that “Nobody hates me…like I hate me,” a statement that, while harsh, rings true for Power Girl and her sometimes convoluted backstory, which is being addressed in this new era of DC History. It was also a nice touch to have Paige wake up and come to the realization that it was a dream while addressing that she took care of the Symbioship by dismantling it and scattering the pieces in the sea, a thread the last pages of the story tease to be explored in September.

The artwork continues to be solid and executed in a manner that adds to the overall enjoyment of the tie-in story.

In the backup, Johnson gives readers a nice coda to his Warworld story as the rest of the Superfamily are terrorized by the seemingly dead Cyborg-Superman. While Natasha and Kenan also appear in the story, the Supertwins and their introduction and place in the Superman universe. Johnson expertly not only packs a lot of story into this backup but also turns the tables revealing that while he is the nightmare of the Superfamily, at the same time, he, Cyborg-Superman, though trapped in the Phantom Zone, is also trapped in the nightmare realm.

The backup story in the Action Comics Knight Terrors though written with readers familiar with events that just happened in the ongoing series, is overall an accessible story that should make those readers checking-in for the event, more likely to go back and read the previous arc and the Warworld run.

Final Thoughts

Knight Terrors - Action Comics #2 continues to explore Power Girl and the rest of the Superfamily's trials while encompassed in Insominia's nightmare realm and setting both stories in position for the Knight Terrors: Nights End and beyond. The main story focusing on Power Girl continues to define who Paige is in the Dawn of the DC era, while the backup is a nice coda to the Warworld and Cyborg-Superman story arc that wrapped prior to the event.
