Review

Knight Terror – Robin #2 picks up where the last issue with Jason and Tim trapped in the nightmare realm and ready to give up hope, handing Insomnia a double win. As things look their bleakest, Tim has a moment of clarity after making the comment that the Robin, who is a failure (him), is going to die with the one who thinks he is a failure (Tim).  In true fashion, Tim assures him that he didn’t fail himself, but Batman and his mother failed him; he did what he was trained to do: survive. Jason then turns the tables on him, saying he is just like Batman, thinking he can save everyone, leaving Tim with his “Come To Jesus” moment. These moments of clarity lead the two to the solution that they must first defeat themselves, to which Jason aptly replies he is always up to take himself down a few pegs. Not one to give up easily, Insomnia likewise ups his game, turning up the pressure on the two to the max, as the two eventually team up and defeat the other’s version of Insomnia.

Throughout the two-issue series, Porter perfectly captures both Robins’ personalities and nightmare fears while providing interactions between the two that feels genuine, leaving the two stronger both on their own and as brothers-in-arms. While it looks like the two now understand the other better, it does not look like they will be appearing in Knight Terrors: Night’s End like the other characters featured in a tie-in limited series.

The creative team of Miguel Mendonca and Adriano Lucas continue to work well together to bring Jason and Tim’s nightmares to life, making the action and story leap off the page. DC should give the whole creative team a chance to revisit and continue to build on the relationship between Jason and Tim.

Final Thoughts

Knight Terrors - Robin #2 was an excellent ending to the limited series tie-in, with both Jason and Tim learning something about themselves, each other, and their roles in the larger Bat-Family. Porter shows an excellent grasp of Tim and Jason's different personalities and how they are more alike than they are different.  Given the two issues and having to split page time between both characters, readers are left with more than a complete story that could be further explored.
