Dylan is still in the mental hospital, but now he has a goal, no matter where he is, there is injustice, and that requires punishment, it’s time to do or die, it’s time to Kill or be Killed!
Title: Kill or be Killed #17
Writer: Ed Brubaker
Art: Sean Phillips
Colors: Elizabeth Breitweiser
What You Need to Know:
After Dylan tried to kill himself he was saved by a demon, with a catch, he must kill one evil person a month or die himself. As a result, he became an infamous vigilante, wearing a red ski mask and wielding a shotgun, he cleaned up the streets one child molester or drug dealer at a time.
Recently following an episode involving the demon where he attacked his roommate Dylan was institutionalized and kept under watch. Even in what is supposed to be a safe environment rapists and torturers are rampant. Dylan has one in his sights, he just has to get Perry the orderly alone so he can pull the trigger, figuratively speaking, of course.
What You’ll Find Out:
We open on the patients in the asylum getting their medication, Dylan dutifully takes him, the nurse checking to make sure he swallowed it. As she walks away Dylan sneakily disposes of the pills, he needs his head clear for what he’s planning.
After a week off his meds Dylan starts to feel his mind sharpening again, he’s almost ready, he just needs to make a plan and act on it. Perry suggests the patients take a walk, maybe an opportunity will present itself?
Dylan first determined Perry had to die when he caught him copping a feel on a patient sometime before, despite the demon being absent in the asylum Dylan can’t let injustice goes by unpunished, after a week of following Perry alone he caught him with his pants down, literally, this guy needs to go down.
Will Dylan manage to take down the orderly? Pick up a copy of Kill or be Killed #17 and find out!
What Just Happened?
My goodness! I love where this series has gone in this second arc! The concept of Dylan continuing his mission despite the demon being absent simply because it’s the right thing to do is like some kind of twisted spider-man great power, great responsibility story. Brilliant!
I think the setting in the second act of the book in the snowy forest is beautifully drawn and rendered, especially considering the almost claustrophobic feeling encountered when walking a snowy forest alone, it almost makes you think someone could be stalking you, you might get away with anything. Of course the same might be said about a crowded mental hospital…
I’ve heard a rumor, nothing confirmed, that this series will wrap with issue 20, I really hope it isn’t the case, I’ll ask at the LCS next week those guys know their stuff! Man, I love this series, and hope it goes 50 issues at least!
Rating: 9/10
Final Thought:
Resolved several plot points raised in the last few issues, and even had a bit of action! Phenomenal issue for what will likely be the last part of volume 4! Pick up this issue if you haven’t already!
