Labyrinth: Coronation #9 – The More Things Change…

As the series gets closer to it’s conclusion, plot points start to become clear, true motives are revealed, and we get some of the most eye-catching art of the series so far.

The issue opens just before the ballroom scene that Jareth used to try to distract Sarah from her goal in the film before cutting to a very similar scene with Maria (Jareth’s mother) dancing with what appears to be her husband, Albert, but as is customary in the Labyrinth, nothing is as it appears to be.

Throughout the issue there are multiple scenes that mirror those in the film, all of which are executed beautifully. We also learn in this issue that the Owl King’s intentions with Jareth are a bit more sinister than we were originally lead to believe, raising the stakes for Maria in her quest to reclaim her son.

Overall, I would consider this one of the better issues of an already great series. I’m definitely interested to see how this story will conclude in these last few issues.
