Review

Little Batman: Month One #1, is the continuation of 2023’s Merry Little Batman from Amazon, which found an overprotective Bruce Wayne trying to be more parent than hero to a youn Damian, who wants nothing more than to follow in his dad’s cape tails.

Opening up soon after the end of the movie, things seem to have quieted down, even though Bruce has reluctantly began training Damian, although it’s not exactly what he expects since there is no crime to fight. There are plenty of great father-son moments between Bruce and Damian which culminate in the final cliffhanger as Bruce is taken hostage by Scarecrow as Damian watches, expecting his dad to become Batman, especially as Bruce tells his son not to worry as he escorted away.

The issue also introduces a character that most likely resembles Damian’s mom, Talia. Chances are that she will attempt to change young Damian as she helps rescue Bruce.

Artist the issue captures the style and feel of the animated movie perfectly and does a great job of returning to this unique take on Batman. Like the Joker from the movie, the version of Scarecrow is a fun, yet borderline creepy design that is playful while remaining true to the classic character.

Final Thoughts

Little Batman: Month One #1 brings the 2023 movie to the comic book page, with the same voice, tone, and overall approach that made the animated movie stand out in its take on Batman, his son Damian, and even Alfred. It will be interesting to see where the series goes and expands this universe.
