Lobo

Recap
DC’s brawling DC K.O. comic book event series is finished now Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson are helping to take DC ALL IN to the NEXT LEVEL, beginning a second act of the publishing initiative that began with the DC ALL IN SPECIAL and the launch of DC’s ABSOLUTE universe.
VRRRRROOOOOOMMMMMMMM! The Main Man’s back, baby!
And his ride is a motorcycle that moves at the speed of sound, but only if that sound is a rippin’ guitar solo, and you better hop on before he leaves you in the dust with all the bastiches he’s fragged for money or convenience!
The Eisner-nominated creative team that brought you a fantastic parable of adolescence in the Midwest, the story of an artist who embraces darkness a little too closely, and the tale of a gunslinger with too much grit to stay buried brings you a classic yarn spun in the star-kissed threads of the cosmic DC Universe.
It’s a guts-soaked path from DC K.O. to the end of the universe, where Lobo is going to scratch his name and number in the Source Wall with a cool knife. Don’t miss the mayhem, special guests, or tasty, tasty continuity! Don’t you do it!
Review
Lobo, the Main Man, The Last Czarnian, Scourge o’ the Cosmos, and many other names is back in classic style as the Next Level of the DC Universe kicks off this week.
Skottie Young and Jean-François Beaulieu bring their irreverent humor and storytelling that they have honed over in their creator-owned series, I Hate Fairyland, to the one character in the DCU that would most likely be able to go toe-to-toe with Gertrude. The duo are joined by artist extraordinaire Jorge Corona, who brings his artistic style that helped to define the return to the Transformers to the Energon Universe. Together, this powerhouse creative team gives readers a no-holds-barred first issue that not only reestablishes Lobo as a force to be reckoned with but also pays homage to the character’s past and sets the scene for the direction of the series.
From the first page, Lobo is larger than life and back showing that he has no %$@*!’s to give. The issue has the right amount of crassness, blood & guts, and badassery that he did when he was created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, with a slight dash of edginess for the modern era. Skottie Young is perfect and hits all the right comedic beats, as the first issue is a slow burn leading up to the final page cliffhanger that gives readers an idea of the direction that the series will be headed.
The artwork and colorwork are spectacular, especially the two consecutive full-page spreads which encapsulate Lobo’s origin, as he highlights some of his classic moments such as killing Santa Claus, his transformation into Lady Lobo, and even poking some fun at his New52 era iteration (which he just glosses over because he can’t even describe). It is clear that the Young, Corona, and Beaulieu are not just writing the series to do so, but are having some fun at the same time.
Having Lobo as Dog The Bounty Hunter reality star-like character, definitely opens the possibilities for a wild and crazy story to come.
Final Thoughts
The powerhouse creative team of Skottie Young, Jorge Corona, and Jean François Beaulieu a no-holds-barred first issue that not only reestablishes Lobo as a force to be reckoned with but also pays homage to the character's past and future.
