Review

The big takeaway from Lucifer #16 is that the hunted is a very tired and worn down woman. I really enjoyed being introduced to her through her own eyes. It isn’t until Achilles confronts her at the end of the issue that we see what she looks like. So before we actually see her, readers and Lucifer can only go by what they see: a woman taking care of her grumpy mother. Lucifer seems almost disappointed. It is interesting to see Lucifer going to Mazikeen for help. Early in this arc there are multiple panels of Lucifer telling her to leave him alone. This time around, I don’t think she is going to follow him. However, I do not think Lucifer would turn away her help.

Odin and Achilles are on top of things. The idea that there is a giant machine that puts bodies back together in hell is so metal. It is even more metal that Odin goes through without missing a beat. The panels of the machine and of it in use are brutal and soaked in fire and blood. My favorite line in the whole issue might be “They even tried to restore his eye– but it put it out again with a thumb.” Odin crawling out of a massive pile of bodies to reveal his newly assembled body stitched together with dead flesh with the horn in one hand just shows the lengths he and Achilles will take. Achilles figures out where the hunted is before Lucifer and he immediately goes there. He knocks out the poor woman. This happens before Lucifer figures out where she is, so I am guessing he won’t get there in time to save her. The hunt truly is wild.

Final Thoughts

I am thoroughly enjoying this story arc. It is exciting and easy to follow, which is ideal for readers looking to jump in. Pick up an issue at your local comic book shop or wherever you get your comics.
