Marvel’s Voices: The Avengers – Helping Those in Need No Matter What

Remember how Tony Stark is a recovering alcoholic? This story is a case where more space was needed to flesh it out. But it provides a human look at Tony Stark, his struggles, and the struggles of others in AA.  The story is about asking for help, and getting it, even from the strangest of people. It is a great nod to the fact that recovery is a constant struggle and that those struggles are universal, whether you’re a businessman, a hero, a villain or whoever. Will the Ghosts co-start get a chance to tell a full issue? We’d like to see that. The story really needed at least another page to really flesh things out a bit more. But was still enjoyable and its nice to see Tony Stark the person, not Iron Man, not Tony Stark the genius. But Tony Stark the flawed human 7/10.

Monica Rambeau continues to be one of the coolest Avengers ever. Her story of stopping a nuclear reactor meltdown is great. But with some slightly awkward dialogue choices. How many times have you seen a hero save the day by hugging and bonus points for a creative way to absorb radiation. With a nice nod to Monica’s history as an Avenger 8/10.

Robbie Reyes would have a great future as storyteller for kids because the way he explains the story of Ms. Navos and how he rescued her from a bad real-estate deal is truly way more exciting than it sounds. Props to Robbie for turning a demonic adventure into a kid-friendly lesson about shady contracts. The art and action angles are especially well done in this comic. It is several pages of beautiful art and storytelling that’s humorous and demonic all while Robbie’s just trying to get home. 9/10.

A Day at the Museum:

 A truly timely story featuring Captain America, but where as the other stories were told from the perspectives of the heroes, this story is told from the perspective of a teacher. This teacher is a child of immigrants and had the unfortunate day to go to the museum right as the Red Skull and his bots decided to go after a fancy artifact. So, we see Captain America, not Steve Rogers though with a nice nod to Mr. Rogers. You know the one my neighbor. It is a charming story that understands the meaning Captain America as for so many people. It has great art, and good humor showcasing how an ordinary person can be inspired to look for help and to be there to help others. 9/10.
