Recap

Mary Jane Watson and Felicia Hardy are trapped in Limbo by BELASCO - and if they wanna escape, they'll have to heist their way out! A shaky alliance with an unexpected ally may be their only hope to survive the SCREAMING TOWER. But MJ's holding back…What is the true price of her new super-powers? And why can't Black Cat come clean about the new (old) man in her life? These truths may damn their friendship…and their souls…to Limbo forever!

Review

Mary Jane & Black Cat continues to be a fun adventure story with two amazing female characters. Continuing their search for yet another soulsword,  MJ and Felicia face many dangers, a lot is left unsaid, and a few things are finally revealed.

I never knew I needed these two characters working together. It adds new layers to both and adds excellent personal and professional chemistry. This is a friendship I want to see develop further throughout the story. And hopefully, the great revelation Felicia is hiding from Mary Jane won’t affect her too much, given where her love life is right now. There’s a lot of potential to develop this friendship, Felicia Hardy, thief and superhero, and Mary Jane, mom, and reluctant slot-powered defense system. It would be nice to delve deeper into what these two characters have in common.

The two do work decently together, though a little more development is needed in that regard; it seems like we will get that to the next issue once the elephant is out of the bag.

Limbo continues to be a place that makes perfect sense and absolutely no sense. But that’s why it somehow works and yet somehow doesn’t. But perhaps it will come together later and surprise us. The plot is not nearly as interesting as what Felicia is hiding and the effect that will have. Readers can feel what Felicia is going through, so props to Jed MacKay. Felicia is facing the burden of being the more experienced hero, and the responsibility is just added pressure that will boil over.

Mary Jane’s powers as a concept are also interesting, but they don’t quite fit her character, or it might take some getting used to. Then again, what would a good superpower be for Mary Jane in a world of superpowers and aliens?

The art is lively and energetic. The movement and flow are r great. But I wish, in terms of body type, the artist could have made Mary Jane and Felicia a little bit different just based on who they are outside of hair and clothing.

Final Thoughts

A little underwhelming. But a decent low-key story with an exciting dynamic rarely explored.
