Recap

As Mary Jane and Black Cat’s adventures through Limbo continue, they learn even more about the mysterious dimension and domain of Madelyne Pryor. But the Goblin Queen isn’t the only inhabitant of the deadly space between spaces—which is a lesson Mary Jane Watson and Felicia Hardy are about to learn the hard way.

Review

Jed MacKay continues to explore the dynamic of Mary Jane and Black Cat in the fourth installment of this series with this fast-paced issue as issues are brought up, and how Mackay is able to deliver a sweet exchange between the two is refreshing to see between the two. Mary Jane brings up the realization that she feels that Black Cat is influencing her bad luck to increase and mess up her chances of good abilities to come through.

The two are able to talk through the issue that has been brought up between them and the guilt Felicia has been bottling up over what happened with Peter. The built up tension of her being unsure of what MJ might say to her. I love how once they have this talk and put the conflict behind them this instantly alters how Black Cat’s powers are affecting MJ, now she is empowering her.

This brings a VERY lucky ability that instills a temporary overpowered ability that can annihilate a monster as well as bring back others from the dead. The unity between the two is easily my favorite moment of this issue and has me looking forward to what this creative team has to offer with this fun pairing.

Carratu is able to showcase the agile reflexes and quick wit that Black Cat has to offer in any stressful moment. Reber excels by adding color to Mary Jane’s incredibly lucky 777 form and really is able to show the reader how powerful she looks in the moment.

Final Thoughts

The core of this issue discusses the difficult conversations we have to have. MacKay really brings to light how guilt over a situation can really impact the potential in our connections. Did I have Mary Jane Watson being able to bring back dead limbo demons with god-like powers on my 2023 bingo card? No, however, I am absolutely living for a fun moment of her being the hero.
