Review

Woah!!! I just realized why they called this series Revelations! Okay, sure, it ties into the current Netflix series (which you should watch right after you finish reading this) but it’s also a series of literal revelations where the Masters of the Universe characters are involved. Listen, I’m not a big origins guy. I don’t really care that Doc Ock was teased as a kid for being fat or that his step-dad was an a-hole, all I need to know is if he’s a good guy or a bad guy. Besides, origins tend to change over time in comic books. But this series is awesome because its origins that I never knew I actually wanted. This issue features Evil-lyn in the spotlight. You’d think you could pretty much guess how she became the evil magic wielder of Eternia, but that’s where author Tim Sheridan throws us a curveball. He comes up with some REALLY unexpected stuff and teaches us that our heroes or villains might not have started out that way. Maybe good guys weren’t always SUPER good and maybe the supervillains weren’t always SUPER evil. Maybe things happened to them that shaped them into the people that they’d one day become. Sheridan keeps giving us gold every single issue so far, and he doesn’t show any sign of stopping. I just hope that there’s another mini-series or better yet an ongoing MOTU series in his future.

Alright, artist Mindy Lee. You win. I am officially a fan. Seeing how you devolve the look of Evil-Lyn into that of a younger person and give her just enough of the classic look so that she’s immediately recognizable is a really great talent. You should be proud and I hope that you are. I came into this series skeptical that you could pull this off, but I  am completely wrong and I hope you keep doing the excellent job that you’ve been doing.  Lee really fine-tunes her style to fit this book and the art is just flat-out awesome!!

Final Thoughts

Yeah, buddy!!!!!! What a great F-ing issue!!! You'll be watching He-Man episodes with a whole new eye after reading this. Fantastic writing, art, and overall storytelling.
