Review
Masters of the Universe continues to be loved and adored for over 40 years, and its rabid base keeps clamoring for more! Thanks to Dark Horse, our insatiable appetite continues to be spoiled. Masters of the Universe: The Wings of Fate brings the stellar storytelling from the big screen and into our hands. Tim Sheridan (writer), Will Sliney (art), Israel Silva (colors), and Andworld Design (letters) make up the creative team in this latest tale from Eternos, but have no fear, this isn’t just another “read-along” from a movie. What you hold in your hands is storytelling and character building at its finest. Tim Sheridan holds nothing back when it comes to Eternian storytelling. Especially when it comes to Orko, everyone’s favorite whimsical and loyal goofball, is a much-welcomed breath of fresh air. In that, we see Orko’s determination and zeal take the wheel and navigate a terrible situation that gets progressively worse. While keeping his wits, he settles into a hero’s role and doesn’t look back.
As you dive into The Wings of Fate, you are gradually introduced to the majestic world of Eternia courtesy of Will Sliney and Israel Silva, who’ve created a world with beautiful shades and characters that jump from the panels. You can hear the water crash against the mountains, and you can smell the open-air market. Eternia is a beautiful but dangerous place, and they brought it to life! An absolute stellar first issue!
Final Thoughts
The one thing I absolutely enjoyed about this book is that it didn’t feel like a replica of the movie from which it came. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes those types of books turn out to be nothing more than shelf fodder. Tim Sheridan and Company not only understood the assignment, but they’ve also raised the bar for movie tie-ins. I can’t wait to see how this series is gonna play out. Make sure you add Masters of the Universe: The Wings of Fate to your pull list. You won’t be sorry.
