Review

Mirka Andolfo is building not only a story but a world that is both engaging in tone and characters. As you read Mercy you can’t help but find yourself completely drawn into every bit the story’s mystery and beauty of Lady Hellaine who is turning out to be an intoxicating character. Seeing Lady Hellaine in her true form is both creepy and beautiful almost like seeing Pennywise the Clown for the first time. The fact that there is so much of her story to tell only builds on the excitement that has already been delivered in two glorious issues so far. The depth of the story being told is easily sewing together plot threads and that will guarantee that readers will come back for more.

Now Mirka not only wields a might pen, but her art is equally fabulous. Visually stunning from the lines that make up the environment and landscapes, to the characters and their details that make feel as if you are in the panel with them. The Devil of Woodsburgh has consumed many bodies and the town is both on alert and is looking for answers. Lady Hellaine stands an idle watch from her rented abode with a watchful eye. With the help of her trusty servant, they prepare for the grand reception that will deliver the population to her like lambs to the slaughter, which is all part of the Lady’s grand plan, however, something is amiss in her senses and she cannot figure out what it is…just yet. The invites start to circulate around town which lights the flame of anticipation for Lady Hellaine’s event. As we see the different preparations for the townsfolk, Lady Gloria decides to bring her kids, and here is where the tale decides to speed up a bit. Gloria’s suspicion starts to build up upon meeting Lady Hellaine. Meanwhile, Hellaine has an encounter with Jonathan that doesn’t sit well with her, afterward, she goes on a quick hut and encounters young Rory and that’s when things get really awkward when Rory calls Lady Hellaine “mother” and instantly calms her and she can no longer feed on the young lad.

Final Thoughts

I love a good horror story.  Mercy has elements of dark romance mixed with the perfect time really set the tone for a great story. Mirka Andolfo’s words and art have a plan, and that plan is to tell a top-notch horror story and put you into its binds and never let go.
