Review

Mirka Andolfo’s bone-chilling story of Lady Hellaine continues to astound and amaze. I can’t imagine anyone reading Mercy and being able to just put it down and walk away. Instead, I envision the reader becoming so mesmerized with Andolfo’s storytelling that they simply become overcome with intrigue and must keep flipping pages and once they are done, they go back for round 2, just to see if they missed anything. Mirka Andolfo has created a spectacular world of mystery and monsters.

Mercy #3 follows along were its predecessors have left off with layers of rich character development accompanied by the right amount of twists and turns. The elements of Lady Hellaines’s struggles as she navigates Woodsburg continue to be a great selling point to this book. Not only does she struggle with pretending to be an attractive lady, as we learn in this issue she has to deal with another struggle (I don’t want to add any possible spoilers, due to the issue being so new) that is sure to come up in an extravagant fashion as only Andolfo can produce.

The series is an absolutely stunning page-turner that has good side stories that marry well with the blood and gore that is not shy about being right up in your face. Very few comics can find the recipe to make it all work. Everything from the characters, lettering, and colors make this a series to be reckoned with. I will put this book up against not only the horror genre but any title on the shelves right now.

Mercy #3 made huge strides in the plot. We are still are guessing at this point on the monster’s overall plan, but we are starting to come up with some educated guesses on what it could be. Without giving too much away dealing with the end, the revelation that is revealed to us was absolutely a twist I was not expecting as I’m sure fellow readers weren’t either. If the ending of Mercy #3 is not enough to bring you back for the rest of the series, you are simply not doing comics right.

Final Thoughts

The horror genre is overfilled like a community swimming pool, and at times makes for a daunting task trying to look for a good horror story that adds refreshment and brings something new or at least a new way of telling a familiar story. This is where Mirka Andolfo shines like a thousand suns. Her ability to surround Lady Hellaine with intrigue, mystery, and a splash of psychological horror makes Mercy a must-read!
