Review

Mirka Andolfo is on a completely different level than most creators in the business. Mercy #4 is a complete journey into an emotionally filled horror story that could easily be the product of Wes Craven, and George A. Romero if they decided to do a comic. Since issue  we have been guessing who Lady Hellaine is and what her mission entails. We have been trying to figure out if the Devil of Woodsburgh exists and who it could possibly be. Andolfo does a superb job of keeping readers guessing and on their toes overcome with thrilling fright.

Issue four starts to give us insight on not only who the Unknowns are but we finally dive a bit deeper into who Lady Hellaine is and dig deeper into her psyche as well. Seeing Lady Hellaine starting to become divided within herself as her memories come in at full force takes the character in a humble new direction. Andolfo masterfully curates twists and turns in the plot that completely takes the reader on an amazing ride full of dark and engaging narratives. Case in point, the end of issue 4 completely had me in a state of shock and eagerly awaiting the next issue.

Mercy is not another story full of monstrous creatures who do nothing but feed off of unsuspecting victims. There are layers here that tell a different tale, especially with this issue. We are starting to question who the bad guys are and who are the good guys. Does Lady Hellaine want to continue in her current path? Will her feelings take over? Mirka Andolfo has created such a horrifically dark and beautiful world that will resonate with fans for years to come.

Final Thoughts

Mercy #4 is by far the goriest and brutal issue yet, and what an issue it is! Horror is a delicate subject to take on. The good creators know how to make a good horror story with the right amount of blood and body flying around. Mirka Andolfo has tapped into that vein and managed to find a great recipe for a good horror story.
