Review
It looks like origins are revealed, and Rita’s Vessel is indeed a choice to make. Does he follow his mistress or forge a new path in what is arguably one long conversation of an issue? The question of the Vessel’s origin is revealed, sure. But how twisty of a twist is it?
Mistress Vile had a neat trick as she continued her efforts against the rangers, and in a flashback, we learn where and how she acquired her vessel. The rangers are nearly absent from this issue, as the focus is on Zordon as he confronts her newest tool. This tool is unleashed only to walk past everything, walk nearly entirely through the rangers in the command center for this confrontation. The Vessel and Zordon have some things in common, and his purpose is finally revealed. He serves Mistress Vile until he becomes a vessel for Dark Specter. Talk about promotion.
The issue provides some insights into Zordon’s psyche, gives Vessel some context and backstory, and, I suppose, gives us a glimpse into the Eltar of the past. And sure, it does give us more information as to what happened to Zordon and how he went from alien to glowing head in a tube. But it only moves the story forward a little. His mission and goals aren’t revealed, and if he intends to kill Zordon, confront him, or is confused by his allegiance, it isn’t well illustrated. But demonstrate that he is a strong force, perhaps too strong for the Rangers to handle. The comic also shows how flawed of a mentor Zordon really is and if maybe the Rangers would be better off without him. Still, Zordon gives the Vessel a few things to ponder as he leaves the command center and
