Recap

An All-Star Studded Creative Team including the original Mighty Morphin Pink Ranger!

Review

The 30th anniversary is here! The beloved and cherished series of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers gives fans a collective story from different creative teams who have an astounding love and understanding for the beloved franchise.

The first of this fantastic collection is Ode to Ernie. Parrott starts Ernie off with a very busy shift and shows the daily stress he experiences. Ernie makes a starting reveal to the rangers that he plans to sell the store as while it used to be his dream, it’s no longer safe for people to go there due to monster attacks. The pink ranger then reveals to Ernie that they have always been customers and how the shop means the world to them.

The second wonderful story is Wedding Vows! A beautiful story of Tommy and Kat’s wedding. Flores writes a bittersweet story that shows the relationship of Tommy and Kat over the years and how even with time and adventures apart, their unbreakable love never wavered. Prasetya draws a beautiful issue and creates a gorgeous dress for Kat. She looks absolutely stunning as Tommy looks incredibly handsome even as he fights a villain. Herms uses color to show the incredible different rangers Tommy was and his passion of being a ranger.

The third installment is Alpha Directive. Groom delivers a sweet look into the perspective of Alpha and their important role of support of Zordon and the Rangers over the long years. Renna and Antonellini are a great artistic duo for this story as they are able to bring to life the support Alpha has selflessly given to others during his time. The final panel hits the audience as Alpha makes their objective clear to always make sure others aren’t alone and that Zordan especially won’t have to experience that alienating feeling.

The fourth story is re-imagine! This insightful story is co- written by Hotson and the icon herself, Amy-Jo Johnson! To see a story co-written by the woman that brought the character to life is spectacular. Mortarino and Lafuente come together as a great artistic combo to illustrate the memories of Kimberly, one of the greatest pink rangers to exist. This remarkable ending has Kimberly taking on a new identity of Emma Phillips to reinvent herself and a glimpse of what’s to come for future stories of this character. A rare perspective to have Johnson tell a chapter like this.

Ranger Academy: office hours. This is a delicate story that Mora writes to demonstrate the impacts the rangers have made and how much they inspire others. The blue ranger comes into contact with a Headmaster of a Ranger Academy. This in turn, brings the blue ranger into being interviewed by a student. It’s clear to see how the student is supposed to represent the fans the power rangers have inspired over the past thirty years. Mi-Gyeong is great with showing the very different expressions that Billy has and their range of facial expressions is incredible. Antonellini uses color in a sweet way that adds more emotion and liveliness to the story.

The final story is What Time Is It? This last story feels like such a sweet dedication and appreciation for the fans over the past generations. In this concluding piece, Scott and Byliss start the final story off with a great beginning dedicated to the team. There is a collaborative series of different panels that show the vast Morphin transformations by different artists. This really demonstrates the growth of the core group and how these superheroes will never fade away.

It’s important to take note of Dukeshire’s incredible work of lettering all the stories in this astonishing issue! It’s phenomenal to see someone be able to weave their skills of lettering in each story to bring together such an outstanding issue to commemorate Power Rangers.

Final Thoughts

This collection of short stories of the 30th anniversary are a love letter for fans of the spectacular franchise. Each creative team handled different aspects of the rangers with such love and care.
