Recap

Having a brief moment of peace; we learn about Remi but more importantly the Solar Ranger Ellariens past. The mystery of the Solarix begins to unravel but not before another enemy arrives on their doorstep…

Review

This chapter is almost entirely exposition and flashbacks for the Solar Ranger with bits of setup for the Solarix and hints towards the Praetor’s identity. All signs are pointing to him being yet another evil Ranger in the vain of Lord Drakkon which kinda leads into the main issue of not being that interesting or unique. The Solar Rangers past was a fairly generic orphaned child living on the streets with their friend’s backstory. They live on a Ruined Earth in this universe but she’s seemingly the only human. Something that’s never brought up when it should be something of note.

She gains the Solarix after accidentally (?) murdering the previous owner. I get that she got scared while trying to rob him and was grabbing the first thing to save herself. But why did she pull him with enough force to throw him off the edge? Especially if he’s a grown adult Alien Ranger? Following the art of the page, the perspective is off to go from a minor injury to death. The final wonky bit also brings back the old issue of them both expecting you to know some of the Power Rangers lore and yet nothing. This time the issue comes about for why the Solar Ranger glitches.

It suggests that she’s glitching because she’s alone and focusing on negative feelings when she Morphs. But that raises problems when you consider that practically every Sixth Ranger has morphed under these circumstances with no issue. It could be because it’s broken on a functional level or because the Morphing Grid is being hoarded by the Praetor. But right now, there’s nothing to suggest either of these are the case. The latter not being enough to prevent her from Morphing and the former not ending explosively or painfully as any other previous Broken Morpher uses. Unless again, they want you to essentially cherry-pick lore. Oh, and the art shifted between a number of pages which was odd.

Final Thoughts

It has potential but it will likely take a long time to ever reach it. Assuming it ever does.
