MMPR/TMNT III #1

Recap
The crossover sensation is back for a third epic adventure! With Rita and Krang defeated, the bad guys aren't cutting the Rangers and Turtles no slack! Lord Zedd and Shredder have a new plan to take down the radical teen heroes and if they don't act carefully, they may just succeed.
Review
The opening of the third outing between the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles throws the reader right into the middle of the action, as Tommy Oliver (The Green Ranger) and Leonardo fight for their lives in an effort to return home to their friends and teammates. After a suitable cliffhanger a couple of pages in, the book takes the reader back in time a few weeks to see just how the pair ended up stranded.
If you haven’t read the first two parts of this crossover, which you absolutely should have because it would be weird if you didn’t, then the creative team is definitely not holding your hand in the opening stages. Writer Ryan Parrott fully expects you to know who these characters are and what they went through in their first two encounters with the forces of evil.
From the Rangers and Turtles, to their allies and enemies, everyone is written how you would expect them to be. The dialogue is fun and snappy, but there isn’t much in the way of depth for this first issue. The pacing can also be a bit too fast in spots, especially since it doesn’t take time to recap what happened in the previous story. However, the ending just might hook you right into the rest of the story.
As for the art, Vincenzo Federici does a serviceable job, and the colors by Raul Angulo are solid and pop out when needed, but overall the artwork is nothing that will particularly blow you away. At least not in this first issue.
Final Thoughts
Overall, MMPR/TMNT III starts out as more of the same from the first two outings, though noticeably not as strong as those first issues. Still a fun read for fans of both series, but not a great starting point for new readers.
