Review
Ultimatum might have hit New York with his goonies, but Miles Morales has much more than that on his plate in the latest issue of Miles Morales: Spider-Man. With all the family drama currently going on in his life, is it even possible for him to be the Spider-Man the city needs him to be?
The struggle of being Spider-Man is ultimately the heart of this series, and issue eleven takes us deeper into that struggle just by showing exactly how much Miles has to deal with in order to be behind the mask. While the cover essentially gives away the cliffhanger ending revealing the return of Miles’ troubled Uncle Aaron, the real conflict of this story is in all the different situations unfolding that require his attention.
This series plays out like the first season of a TV series that just keeps getting better and better. As the family drama continues to keep Miles occupied, the villains only grow deeper roots in the city, forcing Spidey back into action, but it already feels like too much for him to juggle at once. The tension this creates permeates through every panel and truly helps the reading experience.
The visuals in issue #11 are honestly right on par with the rest of the series, despite the new additions in the creative team. Ze Carlos, Ig Guara and Dono Sanchez-Almara all combine to deliver one stunning book filled with near-perfect panel design. This helps the pace to hit an enjoyable stride early on in the book and carries through until the very last page.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man is without a doubt one of the most solid ongoing series at Marvel today. The quality is extremely consistent, pulling you into Miles story and keeping you hooked from one issue to the next. It’s always great to see the next issue on my to-read stack, and issue #11 is yet another excellent entry. Although you might not want to jump into the story in this particular issue, do yourself a favor and get caught up!
Final Thoughts
The struggle of being Spider-Man is ultimately the heart of this series, and issue #11 beautifully takes us deeper into that struggle by showing exactly how much Miles has to deal with in order to be behind the mask.
