Recap

You know that something went wrong when Rhino is looking after you when you got knocked out by a kid. Rhino niece is still missing and Mile’s is uh girlfriends cousin is found but also responsible for knocking Spider-Man out. Miles is shocked that Rhino has a girlfriend, but that hits a nerve with Rhino. He had a wife.

Rhino isn’t asking for help, Mile’s shows his heart and replies with he doesn’t have to ask. After all, Spider-Man is all about helping people (That goes for both Spider-Men). As the two continue to talk about the problem at hand, the sun starts to come up. Miles needs to go to school. Rhino pokes fun at Mile’s saying past his curfew.

Miles returns to school after he has been up all night. His teacher takes offense to his yawning. He appears to be having a bad day at school; even his Vice Principal has taken notice and gives the “I have eyes on you” talk. After school he visits his possible girlfriend to check in, that didn’t go well. Heads back to school only to leave shortly after returning to meet up with Rhino. They Have a lead. The lead is across town. Rhino can’t run through the streets without causing attention. How are they going to get there without drawing attention?

Not being noticed may not have worked but they did find the place, Miles goes on reconnaissance; they find out who is behind taking kids, Tombstone. He senses Spider-Man and starts to shoot. As the fight rages on Rhino comes crashing through the walls joining in the battle. It turns into a WWE match as Rhino comes off the top rope smashing Tombstone (Undertaker reference anyone?).

One of the children come out from behind the battle, flashing a bright light to disorient the two, allowing Thomstone and his group of thugs in suits to escape. Rhino and Spider-Man find some of the kids, but not Eduardo or Rhino’s Niece. Frustrated, unsure what to do now a voice from behind gives a glimmer of hope.

Review

I am a fairly new Spider-Man reader. I know Rhino was an old school villain. However, you cannot help but feel for this guy. You can tell he is older, trying to do something good. He wants to find his niece, the niece’s Mother is an addict, he just wants to help his wife or his ex-wife. I am completely on team Rhino.

In reviews, I usually don’t use so many pictures, but this issue was stunning. I said previously the art isn’t my favorite BUT that has changed. I love this art for Spider-Man. David Curiel who is the colorist did amazing work. There was one panel that I stopped to just admire the panel.

This panel is stunning.

I really enjoy the relationship between Rhino and Spider-Man their banter of Young versus Old is very endearing.  The fight scenes are done really well.

Also, we get Captain America in the next book, like what! I did not see that coming. I am interested in seeing how Captain and Rhino interact. I am interested in seeing how Saladin will handle the chemistry with everyone.

Final Thoughts

I am generally not a reviewer. I work mostly on the news side of Comic Watch. I only review books I am interested in. I generally don't review books that are ongoing I like minis, just because I focus on news and generally don't have time to review.  We are not paid by Marvel, DC or any companies to give good reviews.  I pick books I really want to review and have been lucky enough that they have been great books. The reason I say this, I am a fan of this book, It's an awesome book so far and I want everyone to go read it. Spider-Man fan or not I think everyone will enjoy this book.  Although we are only on issue 2, Saladin seems to have a firm grasp on how to write Spider-Man.
