Miles Morales: Spider-Man #31: What Do You Want?

Not expecting the twist at the end.  This is a great lead in to the new story line.  A little heart and banter in the beginning to a knock out fight to a surprise plot twist in the end.  First the heart.  Seeing Miles and Tiana together is cute.  It further shows Miles’s character of being a little clueless.  He is a little concerned with himself, he is afraid Tiana ghosted him and the more experienced girl calls him out on that thought which leads to a cute moment for Miles trying to get the foot out of his mouth.  Just as quickly Miles’s spider Spence kicks in and the fight starts.  Naturally the hero of the book along with the reader, meaning me thinks that the target is Miles but the twist really hooks me into this story arc.

I do want to briefly comment on the change in the editors box.  A statement is made that has the obligatory asterisk.  Instead of a box with a possibly snarky comment, we get a little figure with a speech bubble in the corner of the frame giving the explanation.  It is a little weird but I think it creates a moment of the creators saying here, this is a story it is written and drawn for fun so lets not take ourselves too seriously here.  For that reason I like this choice, it is different and unexpected  and I think it is a fun way to do some exposition.

The art is very detailed as usual for this series.  Miles is injured in the first volley and we do not loose that detail.  Miles is hit twice, once in the shoulder in the beginning and once through his leg which decreases his mobility in the fight.  I appreciate that detail and it makes the writing believable in the end.
