Review

With Miles out of the picture, it’s up to his family to find a way to save him in Miles Morales Spider-Man #9. The drama only grows with the arrival of Uncle Aaron aka the Prowler (and even a brief time as the Iron Spider).

I use the word drama in the best way possible to describe the tale that this creative team is weaving. Taking strong influences from Bendis’ iconic run, the focus remains solely on Miles’ more intimate struggles even when thrust into dire superhero circumstances. He’s been missing for three days now and his family has searched everywhere, forcing the return of Uncle Aaron.

This is immediately where the story finds its footing. The relationship between Jefferson and Aaron is strained and the tension hangs over every panel they are in together. It’s the exploration of what brought these two together again and why their fundamental bond still remains that is the true heart of this issue. It’s both personal and heartfelt. The dangerous kidnapping pushes the story forward, but it’s easy to become much more interested in the relationship dynamics at play.

The artwork from Javier Garron and David Curiel continues to shine, but in this issue, it’s for an entirely different reason. It’s not the spectacle of Spidey punching bad guys, it’s the engaging character work that makes you feel all the panic, awkwardness and anger these characters are enduring. There might be minor complaints, but overall, the art contributes essential emotion to the story helping to create yet another powerful issue.

Overall, Miles Morales Spider-Man #9 continues this creative team’s recent run of incredible stories with a book packed full of heart. A lot of series would treat an issue like this as simple filler, but this creative team pulls off something truly enjoyable. Longtime fans in particular will find unique payoff in the final moments!

Final Thoughts

Miles Morales Spider-Man #9 continues this creative team’s recent run of incredible stories with a book packed full of heart. This is absolutely a can't miss series for any fan of Miles Morales.
