Money Shot #2: A-Spot

Money Shot #2 goes in a couple of different directions. The main plot moves the story forward and develops the universe of the story quite a bit. Even though it is a book about space exploration, this issue opens up a lot more of this universe. I mean that figuratively, not literally. The B plot is actually my favorite. It continues the origin story of the XXX-plorers, and how they came to form as a team, how they came up with the idea of “crowd-funding” their space exploration, and how they came to be capable performers when it comes to sex work. In this issue, writers Tim Seeley and Sarah Beattie fill the story with dirty jokes, off-color puns, and sexual innuendo that almost literally pours off the page. Ladies and gentlemen, I’m here today to tell you that this is one of the top 10 most entertaining books of 2019. If this book doesn’t get some award for writing, it will be a crime.

As I mentioned before, there are two pretty great plotlines in this book. The A-plot is the set in the current timeline and is a continuation of the story that started last month in issue one. The B story takes us back to the very formation of the XXX-plorers. While the A story is great and takes us on a fun adventure, it’s the B story that really gives us the meat of the story. I found that one far more interesting than the A-plot. It touches ever so briefly on the way the world progressed to where we get to in their present day, and I have to say, I don’t think that they’re too far off. We get some great history of their tech, even finding out how little money shot came into existence and joined the team. This issue’s writing is exceptional and I wouldn’t be surprised if you found yourself reading this issue more than once.

Artist Rebekah Issacs proves once again that what makes her an exceptional artist, and in my opinion, it’s her attention to detail. On the detail meter, she’s landed exactly on the right spot, way over the “basic shapes” portion and just under the “a little too much detail” of the meter. Issacs is also a master of sequential storytelling, and she delivers some great facial expressions and great portrayals of body language, both of which are REALLY important to this issue. This issue is great, and it’s Issac’s art that gives it the alley-oop into the slam dunk of great comics.
