Recap

Have you ever had one of those days where everything is going wrong? Like you’ve somehow been sucked across the infinite cosmos into the wrong corner of fragmented space-time? And you run into someone from your past you really can’t stand? Like, say, someone from...beyond? If so, maybe you’ll have some good advice for Monica. (She’ll take what she can get.)

Review

After a lackluster first issue with an unclear direction, the second issue delivers the plot elements that clarify the need to establish specific stories in the first issue. The magical relic, Monica’s family, and how people viewed her as a hero were needed for the contrast we get in the second issue.

Everything has gone topsy tervy time, wimey and wibbly wobbly, and it seems like Monica is the only one with any retrospect to understand what is happening. The arrival of an old foe further spins Monica in a tissy as she finds herself back on earth, though not quite the same earth or the same time or reality she knows.

The art is nice and colorful with some good visual effects, like the appearance of that former foe, who I thought was Northstar at a blurry glance. But I was wrong. Here it really becomes evident that the team did their homework on Avengers and Monica’s history in art and writing.

It’s a little confusing about what is going on and how it happened, but it hooked me. Ewing added a lot of necessary exposition, and I almost wish we had started with this issue and then gone to a flashback to what happened in the first. But either way, this issue brings back some familiar names and faces that will likely have more to say next issue.

The comic promises to take Monica on a strange and exciting adventure with great potential. It is just a question of if the comic will realize its potential.

Final Thoughts

Things are getting interesting, so if you weren't super enthused about the first issue, this might change your mind.
