Monster Planet #3: Hunted To Extinction

Monster Planet really is turning out to be an exciting action-horror packed full of twists and turns. In a world surrounded by monsters and worse, the creative team makes a smart decision and focus on the very real struggle for survival amongst humans in this terrifying environment.

Monster Planet is the type of comic you kick back with on Saturday night maybe even with some popcorn. It feels like a big-budget movie in both it’s aesthetic and narrative structure, helping it to succeed even though it may have some storytelling shortcomings. You can’t help but have a fun time with a book like this, and that’s a sense that Zenescope captures quite often in their books. It keeps you coming back for more.

The series has had some great character development so far, but this issue really doubles down on the conflicting group dynamics in this treacherous world. I do love the history portion that sheds some light on how things spiraled out of control for humanity,  but it’s the Mad Max approach to those who populate this anarchistic new world that really pulls me in. Once again, Taylor Esposito’s letters pull the story together with a recognizable sense of cohesiveness.

Though this issue takes a bit to pull everything together, it will leave certainly you wanting more. With a talented team of artists all pulling off consistent and enjoyable visuals, the series stays on track to be a worthy addition to anyone’s collection.
