Recap

Review

Author Jed MacKay has taken one of the most continuity-heavy, confusing characters in Marvel history and rolled up everything, shaped it into something brand new, and put it in a whole new shoebox. Seriously, he’s taken everything good, and even a few things that were not that great, and combined it all into a new character that’s really familiar. There are about 200 aspects to ol’ Moon Knight, and MacKay has almost all of them making appearances and as I mentioned, put a brand-new spin on this complex character. This new status quo includes a new supporting cast that is diverse in a way I didn’t even know you could be diverse. This issue in particular centers on Moon Knight helping a young man who’s a hero in his own right, against some super-villains who have probably one of the most unique spins that I’ve seen in comics. This, combined with all the great stuff that I mentioned earlier gives us a really fresh issue featuring a classic hero. I can’t wait to see what MacKay has lined up next for Moon Knight.

Artist Alessandro Cappuccio is a really great pick for this book. His style is both moody and clean, which fits in perfectly with this superhero book set in a Marvel horror-type setting. While he never crosses over fully into the horror setting, he does embrace the rich history of the Marvel Universe’s horror settings. Think books like Tomb of Dracula, Werewolf by Night, Blade, and the like. Cappuccio’s superhero strengths really anchor this series where it needs to be, and that means everybody wins including you when you buy this book.

Final Thoughts

I'm absolutely loving this new take on Moon Knight. MacKay & company have got me hook, line, and sinker. This issue takes a wholly unique spin in a book that itself is a unique spin. Can irony BE any more ironic? Just buy this issue!!!
