Comic Watch Reviews:
- Multiversus: Collision Detected #1 – Not Your Usual Multiversal Crossover
- MultiVersus: Collision Detected #2: The Menagerie Expands
Mayhem In The City Of Tomorrow! Metropolis’s newest city-wide battle has everything: Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, a child with a gem on his shiny round tum-tum, a sprite-sized Dark Knight, and…the Head. (It’s that thing where Brainiac’s code gets overwritten by an inebriated scientist who couldn’t be bothered to hang around for the entire issue!)
Review
MultiVersus: Collision Detected #3 is a mish-mash of scenes that start but seem to end without any cohesive connection to the overall story. Case in point, picking up from the end of last issue Wonder Woman successfully captures the Wicked Witch of the East as Monsieur Mallah swings in with The Brain but nothing more of the interaction with Wonder Woman happens.
Meanwhile in Metropolis, the Brainiac-esque ship of Rick (of Rick & Morty) starts spewing out attackers as John Stewart and Hawkgirl team up with the Steven Universe characters, who apparently introduce the characters to one another happens in the gutters between panels which was a bit distracting but not enough to be a major sticking point.
It is a disappointment that Rick only appears (so far) in footage of being captured by Brainiac and Batman’s comment that he not only did a number on Brainiac but did it while not sober. There is also non-sequester Peanuts (Charlie Brown reference) that was a nice touch in the dialogue between Batman and Superman. Finn and Jake from Adventure Time and Tom and Jerry also make cameos as Brainiac-Rick’s robotic minions.
The solution that the Trinity has for the different MultiVersus characters seems a bit extreme by putting them in holding cells in the Fortress of Solitude. At the end of the issue Batman says the a being The Devoid has been forcing the other characters to battle each other under the entrophic threat called The Nothing.
The issue ends with the Joker arriving on the scene which is probably going to cause things to get even crazier.
The art and color work continue to be consistent although there are some odd perspective shots scattered throughout the issue but are easily disregarded.
Final Thoughts
MultiVersus: Collision Detected #3 stumbles a bit in the storytelling out of the gate but continues to be a fun mish-mash of the different properties into a massive story. Lots of fun cameos and references for young and old readers alike.
