Review
Multiversus: Collision Detected #4 begins with a bang as The Joker attacks Harley and Ivy’s abode in Suicide Swamp in the hopes of capturing Harley’s new pet, one of the champions from another universe the reindog. For a series that seems to be geared towards a younger crowd this open sequence is somewhat risqué with Joker’s dialogue, but remains PG-13 enough for any young readers.
The scene shifts to The Fotress of Solitude where the various characters from the other universes decide that they are tired of being caged and break out thanks to the Rick-ifeid Brainiac. This sequence is also a bit dark, especially Bugs Bunny, who uses his costumes to convince Steven Universe that they are better off on their own and returning to the contest in order to save their respective worlds.
Miller continues to nail the banter between the Trinity as they pursue the final contestant, who Harley is attempting to rescue. Once the action shifts back to Harley, the mood and tone lighten as she uses the various gadgets to avoid capture, the best perhaps is the fake Starro she distracts Superman with.
The various non DCU characters arrive to help the Trinity in vehicles that are deep pulls from the DCU history: the Super Plane with the punching fists and the Forever People’s Super Cycle, which was later used by the original Young Justice team.
The issue allows Sommariva to have some fun with the art as he gets to play around with Bugs Bunny in a full page splash page. The only character that seems off is Shaggy and his facial expressions that seem out of character.
Final Thoughts
Multiversus: Collision Detected #4 moves the overall story along and begins to position the characters into the home stretch of the series, along with a cliffhanger that leaves one of the visitors to the DCU in a perilous position.
The issue, like the others before, contains some nice Easter eggs that long time readers should pick up on and appreciate.
